Obituary of Edward Ralph Carr

Edward Ralph Carr, passed away June 21, 2018, surrounded by close friends and following a long bout with cancer. Ralph was a respected Fine Arts broker and former gallery owner of the Carr Fine Arts Gallery in Fort Worth, Texas and Taos, New Mexico.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 5100 Crestline Road, Fort Worth, TX 76107.  A reception will follow at The Original Mexican Eats Cafe, 4713 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76107.

Memorials: In honor of Ralph, donations and remembrances should be made to the Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 East Lancaster Street, Fort Worth, TX 76103.

A native of Fort Worth, Ralph graduated from North Side High and attended Texas Christian University where he earned a BS & master’s degree. He was active in sports cheerleading there and a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon while attending TCU. He then attended Law School at SMU before starting a successful brokerage and investment career which eventually led him into the Art World.

He represented both the late Gentling twins, Scott and Stuart, and was responsible for brokering the official Gubernatorial Portrait of George W Bush. He visited President Bush and his wife, Laura several times at their ranch in Crawford while the painting was being done. He also brokered the portraits for TCU Chancellor, Victor Buschimi, TCU Board Chairman, John Roach and Dallas real estate broker, Clint Murchison. Most notably he recently facilitated the portraits of both Ruth Carter Stevenson and Amon Carter for the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth.

Ralph was also very active in Fort Worth’s Republican Party. He, along with the late John and Barbara Howell and Fran and Eddie Childs, hosted President Ronald Reagan and wife, Nancy here several times. Ralph’s other achievements include two past presidencies of the Fort Worth Steeplechase in 1967 and 1969 as well, past presidency of the Fort Worth SAE Alumni Association and recipient of that organization's alumnus of the year award.
