Obituary of Donald Ray Shelby
Donald Ray Shelby, 82, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home in Trinity Terrace, Fort Worth, Texas.
Memorial Service: 2 pm Friday, Longhorn Auditorium at Trinity Terrace, 1600 Texas St, Ft. Worth.
Memorials: Should friends desire, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Don was born on October 2, 1936 in Goose Creek, Texas. He graduated from his beloved Irving High School where he gained life time memories and friends. Don served in the Navy as an Air Control man. After the Navy he graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BBA and meet his wife Carol. Don worked in the packaging industry and started his own business, American Carton Company. He and Carol retired in 1999 and moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas. For the next 20 years he was able to live out his many talents and gifts through music, acting and art. Don was in several plays but by far his favorite role that he played more than once was as Snoopy from, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. He not only participated in the Sun City Follies from 2002 – 2016, he and Carol wrote one of the follies and he co-directed some as well. When he wasn’t in a practice he was in his yard or painting. He loved his dogs and family very much and was always ready to entertain friends.
Don loved the City of Fort Worth and Illness motivated him to move to what he believed to be one of the greatest cities in 2017 in order to be near family. While not here for long he still enjoyed as much as he could of family and Fort Worth.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Ila Mae (Peaches) Dauer, and his brother Lonnie Royce Shelby.
Survivors: Don is survived by his wife of 56 years Carol Shelby; daughter, Susan Luttrell and husband Robert; son Scott Shelby; granddaughters, Julie Sheffler and Whitney Shelby; great-grandchildren, Annmarie And Jackson Sheffler; along with nieces and nephews.
