Obituary of Angela Rita Olsen
Angela Rita Vadala Olsen, 67, of Arlington, Texas, past on to Dance with the Lord, on June 10, 2019.
Angela, the daughter of Pasqualina Gangemi Vadala and Joseph Vadala, was born in Staten Island, New York and raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She graduated from Our Lady of All Souls School, East Orange, NJ 1965, Bloomfield Senior High in 1969, and Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University), in 1973. This Jersey Girl chose West Texas to fulfil her dream as an elementary school teacher.
In Odessa, TX (ECISD), Angela taught core subjects at all levels, as well as being a dance instructor for Milam Magnet School of Visual and Performing Arts, and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Angela was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, in Odessa.
Throughout her life, Angela volunteered wherever help was needed. In addition to an enduring commitment to serving the Altar Guild for her churches, Angela was a founding member of Family Promise in Odessa, Texas, which shelters the homeless. In Arlington, Angela volunteered for Catholic Charities, Laundry Love, MHMR, ReSale Shoppe Pregnancy Center, and worked tirelessly as an advocate, most recently to encourage Voter Registration in Texas. She loved to bake and hostess Sunday dinner for the entire family.
In her last five year journey, Angela participated in the on-going research, at MD Anderson Cancer Center, to find cures for endometrial cancer.
Angela, a life-long lover of dance, competed at the Silver level in all styles of ballroom, as well as Tribal Fusion Belly Dancing; However, to those who knew and danced with her at least every Friday at EverDance Studios, Angela was the Queen of Hustle.
Angela is survived by her devoted husband, Mansfield (MISD) teacher George Eric Olsen; children James M. McDonald and his wife Adrena Johnson, Marisa C. McDonald Metcalfe and her husband Jeremy Metcalfe, and George Evan Olsen; loving brother Richard Bruno Vadala, of Howell NJ, adoring sister Carolyn Rose Vadala of Bloomfield, NJ, and grandchildren: Jack C. McDonald, Katherine C. McDonald-Wilson, Kiera B. McDonald, and Mason J. Metcalfe, all of the Dallas Fort Worth, TX area.
Angela’s Celebration of Life Ceremony & Interment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 29th at St. Christopher Episcopal Church, 3550 SW Loop 820, Fort Worth, TX 76133. All are welcome to Celebrate !
