Obituary of Helen Wickes Roe
Helen Harriet Wickes Roe, age 92 of Ft. Worth, passed away on December 10, 2019. She was born to the late Harry Edward and Helen Wickes on August 11, 1927 in Galveston, TX. There was some confusion of her birthdate. While it was actually August 11, her mother preferred the sound of August 10, and it was years before she discovered her birthday was really August 11.
Before she met and married Oklahoma native Bill D Roe in 1947, Helen graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, then attended Oklahoma State University. Her first priority was her family, including their five children—Margie, Steve, James, Mark, and Susan, as well as an assortment of pets through the years. As Bill’s career progressed, the family lived in cities in Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Georgia, Ohio, and finally returning to Texas. Helen performed her volunteer work for various schools her children attended, as well as participating on the Altar Guild at Trinity Episcopal. She loved her lifelong friends, enjoyed her books, doted on her pets, and was an avid Anglophile. She also had a lifelong interest in antiques, and we all knew to avoid calling during the tv program “Antiques Roadshow”.
Helen was adored and survived by her children, Margie, Steve, James, Susan, son- in-law James Harper, three grandchildren, Andy and Holly Harper, Cooper Little, her beloved brother Harry Wickes, Jr and family.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband Bill and son Mark. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days. For those who have known Helen, her service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Ft. Worth on December 20, 2019 at 1:30 PM.
