Obituary of Tony Jenkins

Tony Leroy Jenkins, 75, of Ft. Worth, Texas, lost his battle with cancer in the comfort of his home on Friday, May 1, 2020. Tony was born on August 16, 1944, to William Alford “Jake” and Helen Cleo Brown Jenkins in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Tony is survived by his soulmate Kathy Rice, daughters Meredith Jenkins (Mike) Leiva, Kelly Jenkins (Richard) Buchfink, Alicia Jenkins (John) Witt, Amy Rice (Tom) Hughes, along with fourteen loving grandchildren, five brothers, two sisters, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. He graduated from Stamford High School in 1963 with a football scholarship to Oklahoma University, “Boomer Sooner!” In 1967 he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys football team. The US Army had a different plan for him instead and in 1967 he was drafted and served his country as a Sergeant with the 25th Mechanized Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, during which time he was awarded the, Bronze Star with Valor, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, and received the Purple Heart. Tony was a man who had never met a stranger nor faced any task he didn’t know how to do. Tony was a skilled carpenter and master craftsman. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, NASCAR, rodeos and road trips. In his younger days, he competed in team roping, calf pinning, and announced local 4th of July rodeo competitions. Tony has been well known throughout both Parker and Tarrant Counties and has built many relationships. He will be missed terribly.
