Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thelma Albritton Zeigler peacefully entered eternal rest on November 20, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas. Thelma graced the family tree of life with her presence on 18 November 1944 in Savannah Georgia. Born to parents deceased early in life, she was a champion scholar, with an opportunity to attend The Julliard School for Performing Arts in New York City, but decided to enroll at Savannah State College, where she graduated with honors to pursue a career in teaching. Her educational pursuits continued as she earned additional degrees including a Master of Science degree from the University of North Dakota. Throughout her nearly 50 years of teaching, she balanced the stress of life as a military wife and raising four children whilst simultaneously educating countless generations of children toward their educational pursuits. She not only believed in the potential of every child, but she also instilled a result driven tautology and accountability for student work, albeit with a candor that often accompanied an indiscriminate rebuke for excess indiscretion. Thelma emulated how prayer, self-determination, and her demonstrated experience can uplift and sustain souls. She was a father to a son and a mother to a daughter. All power and grace bestowed upon such a woman who loved to laugh, always listened, and had no problem telling anyone the way it was going to be. Blessed by her impactful philosophy, many of her students in later years requested that their children be placed in her class. Eternally loved by her students, she would spend over 30 years teaching Texas History at W.H. Monnig Middle School in Fort Worth, Texas until her retirement on May 15, 2015. Thelma loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandson. She was active in the church and supported charitable causes and hobbies like sewing and crocheting blankets and Afghans for the homeless and others in need. She was reunited in death with her daughter Alexondria M Zeigler (2018) and survived by her remaining children, Andrea J Collier (Jesse), Andrew J Zeigler Jr (Maria), Adrian T Zeigler (Sheila); grandchildren, Christopher Zeigler (John), Adrian Zeigler, Brittany Lupien (Simone), Melyssa Wade, Kerem (Fatma) Karaguzel, and Kaelan Zeigler; great-grandson, Aiden Murphey; and brother, Edgar R Walker Jr. *Masks must be worn properly, and Social Distancing MUST be practiced at ALL times while at the Church* A Pass Thru Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church located at 3550 SW Loop 820, Fort Worth, TX 76133.
