Obituary of Gary John Harp
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary John Harp of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on September 30, 2021, at the age of 44. Gary was born May 13, 1977, in Wichita Falls, Tx to Johnny and Cathey (Whitt) Harp. He grew up with a strong and loyal group of friends. Gary married the love of his life Lori Campbell in 2000 and welcomed a beautiful daughter Jordan in 2006. He was a graphic designer for the Fort Worth Community Credit Union after many dedicated years at Office Max.
From a very early age, Gary was filled with humor, laughter, and a dry wit. From creating his own “working pants” out of shorts and plastic tools, to bringing life to George the blue monkey, to the wit, laughter, and sarcasm that his family and friends came to know, Gary brought joy to those around him. His love of sports began early and through his young life, he played basketball anywhere he could with his friends. While a knee injury kept him from playing on a more organized level, he loved the game and watching it. While basketball filled his youth, football became his passion in his adult life and was most visible in his love of fantasy football. While competition was enjoyable, he was always willing to help others draft their teams and loved sharing his joy of watching the players and analyzing the game. Gary was also a grilling man, and his patio was nicknamed Garbo’s where friends came to gather and enjoy time together. Gary was a loyal and honest friend who was always there with a helping hand for anyone in need. All who knew him loved him for his fun-loving nature and willingness to do anything needed.
While Gary was not often a man of many words, he was a man of actions. His actions showed his unending love for Lori and Jordan. His devotion and love for them was evident in all that he did. He was an awesome dance dad engaging in any aspect where he was needed being a chauffeur, a father figure for others, or just a listening ear. In every interaction, his love for Jordan was apparent. One look at any photo of the two of them illustrated their strong bond full of love and laughter. While Jordan is often called a Daddy’s girl, the reality was that Gary was a Daughter’s Dad ensuring that she had all the love, support, and encouragement in the world. He loved her more than words could ever express, and that love continues to shine through her beautiful spirit.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lori and daughter, Jordan; sister Joann Taylor and her husband Todd; and mother Cathey Whitt. Gary’s memorial service will be held at Thompson Harveson & Cole, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth, Tx 76114 on October 11, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Stories and favorite memories will be welcome as part of the service.
