Obituary of Tom Wayne Tate
Tom Wayne (Mike Tate) was born on May 9, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas and passed peacefully on November 26, 2021, at his home in Haslet, Texas.
As a radio personality for KBER and KBUC in San Antonio, he used the professional name of Tom Wayne which he used throughout his life. He ended his 16-year radio career as a General Manager at KXOL in Fort Worth. After working with Fort Worth Police Department, Tom found a perfect fit with the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau. During his 19 years, he was Director of Facilities, General Manager of the Tarantula Train and ended his career as a Manager of Festivals and Events.
While working for the City of Fort Worth he was involved in Chamber of Commerce and had a hand in organizing the Chisholm Trail Round up and Pioneer Days. He started Cowtown CASI and was the 1st Cowtown Great Pepper.
He loved his family and enjoyed his life playing, singing and writing music.
Tom was preceded in death by his sons, Steven Tate, and Andrew Tate.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Karen Tate (Wayne); daughter, Cindy Tate; daughter-in-law, Christy Tate; grandchildren, Sierra Whitehead, Madison Tate, and Levi Tate.
Services will be held on December 9th at 3:30 p.m. in the Grapevine Convention Center, 1209 S. Main Street, Grapevine, TX 76051.
