I truly enjoyed caring for Herschel and hearing all his great stories and knowledge. He will be forever missed. He called me Joann even though my name is Felicia he said it was more fitting. I've taken care of him since came to live at Keeneland nursing and rehab in Weatherford. We will miss him

Herschel was a boyhood friend in Austin. He lived downtown in a big old house, one of the last residences in what was becoming a totally commercial district. Years later it was revealed his old house was due to his family having been very early Austin pioneers. Herschel really was old Austin whereas many of us West Austin kids were rank new arrivals. A memorable person.
