Obituary of Martha Carol Owen
Carol Owen was born March 7, 1940, in Annona, Texas to James and Dixie Moore. She married Howard Owen on November 26. 1974 in Lovington, New Mexico. She went to her heavenly home on January 16, 2023, in Weatherford, Texas.
A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 24th, at the Lone Camp Community Center, 7260 FM 4, Palo Pinto, TX 76484 with a burial to follow at New Hope Cemetery in Lone Camp.
Carol was a fixture in the Lone Camp community for over 40 years, especially at the Lone Camp Community Center. She saw a need for local citizens to gather and enjoy food and fellowship. The Tuesday Lunch Bunch and Lone Camp Bazaar were a result of this vision. She was an election judge at the Community Center for many years as well. If you've driven down a road in Lone Camp, you'll have noticed they all have names that have meaning. Those names are from her. She was also a founding board member of the Lake Palo Pinto Water Supply Corporation.
Carol is survived by her son, Lowell (Rhonda Pourner) Thomas of Crowley; daughter, Shanna (Wesley) Acuff-Sims of Lone Camp; sister, Brenda (Jerry) McMahan of Chandler; grandchildren, Marti (Greg) Jones of Palo Pinto, Kody (Jenna) Acuff of Palo Pinto, Justin (Kristy) Thomas of Crowley, Siranda Thomas of Crowley, and Klancey Acuff of Lone Camp; great-grandchildren, Zoey Jones of Lubbock, Ransom and Cole Jones of Palo Pinto, Kaden Acuff of Palo Pinto, London Thomas and Paris Allen of Crowley and Kenzlee Acuff of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Owen; son, Scott Thomas; sister Patsy McKay; son-in-law, Kurt Acuff; and daughter-in-law, Carol Thomas.
