Obituary of Dee Lilamae Akers
Dee Lilamae Akers, 77, passed away peacefully the evening of April 14, 2023 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Dee was born on June 12th, 1945 in Dodge City, Kansas to Dean and Mildred Robins. She was the 2nd of four children. As the daughter of a minister she and her family moved often, living in Kansas, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma during her early years.
She attended high school in Elkhart, Kansas. As a young woman she was a good student, played clarinet in the band and played organ and piano for church. She also accompanied school choirs and vocal and band soloists. She loved playing the piano.
She participated in the 4-H club where she learned to sew, making most of her own clothes. Following graduation from Elkhart High School she attended Midwest Christian College in Oklahoma City and Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, where she completed her degree in education. While there she met and married her husband, Jim Schroeder.
While raising her family, she gave piano lessons and served as church pianist and a public school teacher.
She brought much beauty to her family as a talented homemaker.
She spent her later years in Norman, Oklahoma working in financial aid at the University of Oklahoma until her retirement in 2010. During that time she married her high school sweetheart, Jerold Akers. She loved to read, watch movies, and do crossword puzzles from the newspaper.
Dee was preceded in death by her loving parents and sister, Aldeana Hinkle.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Jerold Akers, her children Kristin (Kevin) Morris, Kaleb Schroeder, and Kara
(Doug) Symes and her 10 grandchildren, Michael (Lacey), Shannon (Miguel), Christian, Jonathan, August, Ian, Andrew, Levi, Joseph, and Daniel as well as one great granddaughter, Laney. Her children and grandchildren were the delight of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them on holidays and attended numerous concerts, recitals, graduations, and sporting events. She is also survived by her brothers, David and Sam Robins and their families.
Dee showed love and kindness to her many family members and friends including a few whom she unofficially adopted. She was an avid sender of cards and letters through the years to those she loved. Her family and friends have many loving memories of her and she will be dearly missed.
Family will gather the morning of May 20th from 11:00-1:30 to share memories of Dee and a meal at Summit Church.
A visitation will follow for family and friends from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. Summit Church, 616 Bud Wilkinson Drive SW Norman, OK
