Obituary of Makram Mielad Salama

Please share a memory of Makram to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Makram Mielad Salama, a pillar of strength and wisdom, passed away peacefully at the age of 85. He was born on January 2nd, 1938, in Shendi, Sudan, into a proud Coptic Orthodox Egyptian family that had ventured from Egypt to Sudan, creating a tapestry of cultural heritage that he held dear and lovingly passed on to future generations.

Makram was the youngest among seven beloved siblings: Morgos, Saad, Yvonne, Ellen, Enis, and Dawlette. He was born to Mielad Salama and Kawkab Samaan, who instilled in him the values that would guide his remarkable life.

His formative years were spent in Shendi until the age of 15, after which he embarked on a new chapter in Khartoum, attending high school at Comboni College. His journey led him to Egypt, where he pursued his studies in accounting and business administration, a testament to his unyielding determination.

In the early 1960s, Makram joined Gellatly and Hanky as their dedicated accountant, setting the foundation for a career marked by brilliance and dedication. On February 17th, 1963, he exchanged vows with the love of his life, Angel Dimian, in a union blessed at Khartoum's St. Mary Cathedral.

His professional journey thrived as he assumed the role of Director of Accounting and General Manager at G.M. Haddad & Sons in the mid-1970s, a testament to his visionary leadership. In pursuit of excellence, he journeyed to Saudi Arabia in the late 1980s, contributing his expertise as the Director of Accounting for a Ford Dealership.

In 1993, he embraced yet another new beginning, immigrating to Canada with his beloved wife and youngest daughter, Carmen. Canada became a canvas for his early retirement, as he helped Carmen manage a gas station while infusing his love for family into every aspect of his life. The mid-1990s saw Makram embark on a new adventure in Romania, where he led a multi-national company with grace and vision, oscillating between Romania and Canada for several years.

A dedicated patriarch, Markram’s unwavering commitment to his family was matched only by his love for exploration. A storyteller of the finest order, he regaled everyone with his remarkable tales. A traveler, a friend to all, a mentor, and an ardent admirer of life's simple beauties, he left an indelible mark on those he encountered.

In 2011, he embraced the charm of Northern Kentucky and, in late 2021, embarked on a final journey to Dallas, Texas.

Makram Mielad Salama's legacy is one of love, resilience, and the profound impact he left on family and friends. He will forever be cherished as a beacon of light, guiding us through the chapters of life.
