Obituary of David Marston Miller

David Marston Miller, aged 74, of Natchitoches, Louisiana, passed away 7 days shy of his 75th birthday. On January 31st, 2024, at 3:03 a.m., David peacefully passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family and went on to meet his Lord Jesus. David was wonderfully saved on February 25th, 1984. He recognized a higher power once he was intervened on by his family. The first step in doing so is to realize we are powerless. The second step is to come to believe the power greater than us can indeed restore us. The third step is turning ourselves over to God as we understand him. The following year, in 1985, David’s friend from high school, Dennis Magee, had him on his mind and heart. He came to visit and led him to the Lord. Shortly after, he joined his wife Vickie and their son Matthew at their local church. He attended for many Sundays until one day, he took their hands and led them to the altar and made a public profession of his faith and was baptized. This is when everything began to fall into place in their lives as a family.

In 1994, after his son joined the Air Force, he and Vickie found a home at Worth Baptist Church on December 4th. He decided to become more active in the church and he joined the church’s Bus Ministry in 1999. Dr. Weaver, the current pastor at the time, went on to hire David for maintenance within the church on June 15th, 2010.

David was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Vickie. He was blessed with their one son, Matthew David Miller, his wife Lisa, and his two precious granddaughters, Aimee & Dana Miller. He is survived by his sister, Paige Miller Kelly, his brother, James Patrick Miller, and his wife Diane. He is also survived by his sister in-laws Valerie Cooper, Amelia Dunlap, and her husband Tim. He has numerous loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Leroy ‘Red’ and Marguerite Miller, his sister Lynn, his nephew Todd Kelly, his sister-in-law Susan Hall, and his brother-in-law Phil Cooper.

The pallbearers will include his friend Jay Richardson and David’s nephews, Edward and Kirk Kelly, Sean and Ryan McCearley, Bradley Cooper, and Micheal Jaster (Husband of his niece Cheri). With an honorary Pallbearer, Todd Kelly.

David loved people and telling them stories, often in a Cajun accent. As an avid Louisiana State University football fan, he was always ready to cheer on his alma mater during football watch parties with Dr. Weaver and Jay and Gail Richardson. He also enjoyed the rivalry between LSU and Alabama with his dear friend Dean Wimberly. You knew you were especially loved by David if you were teased continuously. Endearingly known as Papa by his granddaughters, there were constant retellings of “them moose stories” to his beloved friends. He will be deeply missed, and his memory cherished within the hearts of many.
