Obituary of Walter Townsend, Jr.
On August 12, 2024, Walter Lee Townsend, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord.
He was born on December 29, 1944, to the parentage of Walter Townsend Sr. and Lillie Harrell Townsend. He attended Fort worth ISD and graduated from I.M. Terrell High School Class of 1963. His love for his family, friends, and classmates showed in every aspect of his life. Walter Jr. was known by many different names given to him by family and friends. Uncle Bubba, Talley, Big Walt, Coach, and Big Daddy to name a few.
Walter enlisted in the United States Army in 1965, and fought for our country in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969. Walter met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Walker Townsend, in 1980, and birthed a baby girl, Ashlee Dionne years later. Walter took pride in mentoring and being a leader for young men, and was a dedicated coach for little league football and baseball for many years. He led his teams along with his star player, his son Torri, to win several championships. His passion for cars led him to become employed with General Motors based in Detroit, MI for many years. Once he relocated back to Fort Worth he soon began his career at Miller Brewing Company; after 35 years of faithful employment, he retired in 2006. Walter loved to travel and didn’t mind traveling the distance to go visit and spend time with family near or far. Walter loved to entertain, had a sense of humor, and was one of the best story tellers around.
He was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Townsend; parents, Walter Townsend Sr. and Lillie Townsend; siblings, Freddie Dale Robinson, Samuel Townsend, and Fannie Ruth Williams.
Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Ashlee D. Townsend; grandson, Torri Walker Jr; granddog, Dolla Bill; sister, Gertrude Townsend Murphy, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
