Phillip L. Aikman, 74, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, Greenwood Memorial Park. Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Friday, Travis Avenue Baptist Church, Dr. John Lee officiating.
Phillip was born on Jan. 11, 1942, in Norfolk, Va., to Joe and Thelma Aikman. He was the director of bands and fine arts administrator for the Castleberry ISD for over 40 years. Phil was active in music ministry at Travis Avenue Baptist Church and the director of Metro Praise Orchestra. Phil was honored when Castleberry ISD named the Fine Arts building the Phillip L. Aikman Fine Arts Center.
Phil was a loving and devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather and mentor. He loved his students, his 190 SL Mercedes red convertible, model trains, Colorado, and the beach.
Phil was preceded in death by his son, Clayton Nathaniel Aikman.
Survivors: Wife, Jana Aikman; daughters, Amanda Aikman Moss and her husband, Craig, and Laura Aikman-Smith and her husband, Landon; grandchildren, Jaxon, Colton and Emerson Moss, and Stayton Phillip Smith; sister, Suzanne Fucella; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, students and extended family.
