Irene (Gabby) Stewart Lantz peacefully transitioned into the loving presence of her Heavenly Father on Friday, March 18, 2016. Surely a celestial choir welcomed this precious Godly lady.
SERVICE: 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24th in Marty Leonard Chapel, 3131 Sanguinet St. Fort Worth, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday, March 23rd at Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home 6009 Wedgwood Dr., Fort Worth, TX. Mrs. Lantz will be laid to rest next to her husband in the military section of Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas 76012.
Irene was born on November 25, 1921,in Hollis Oklahoma to Thomas Putman Stewart and Sophia McClendon Stewart. Irene entered her life into a farming family of ten children. Only six lived to adulthood. Her parents and all of her siblings predeceased her.
Irene lived most of her teen aged years, until she married, on the family farm in Spanish Fort, Montague County, Texas. She was known as her daddy's shadow because she followed him into the fields and stayed close when he repaired a tractor or wagon. He called her little "Rene." Irene was known as one of the best Irish cloggers. She danced until her much later years. Irene met and married the love her life Claude David Lantz who died in 2007. Over their 65 year marriage they were known as a devoted couple. They were separated with the beginning of World War II. While Claude served in the Pacific Theater of Operations, Irene kept the home fires burning, was delivered of their first child, and wrote daily letters to keep up the spirits of her soldier husband. Her family will keep her memory carefully in their hearts.
SURVIVORS: Irene leaves behind a large and devoted family. Irene is survived by Her two daughters, Tanya Gowins of Benbrook and Zondra Wright of Forest Hill. Her grandchildren are Kevin Gowins and his wife Lesa of Mansfield, Tiffany Gowins Ramey and her husband Shannon of Denver Colorado, Bryndon Wright and his wife Sherry of Mansfield, and Ginger Wright Sommerer of Fort Worth. Irene had bragging rights to great grandchildren Serenda and Jeremy Weathers of Joshua, Ian Gowins of Mansfield, Andrew Wright of Mansfield, Catherine Elaine Wright of Mansfield, and Felix Ramey of Denver, Colorado. Irene delighted in her great great grandchildren, Levi Weathers and Gabby Rae Weathers. She is also survived by her special sisters-in-laws, Jean Mote of Mansfield and Venita Thomas of Muldrew, Oklahoma. Throughout her long, active life Irene influenced many friends, neighbors, fellow church members, and countless beloved nieces and nephews.
