Having only just discovered that Burney and Jerry are gone, I'm hoping enough time has passed that you have rested and healed from what must have been a tough time. Burney and Jerry were the best neighbors I ever had. (I'm their next-door neighbor up the hill.) The year they were building their mountain house, they offered their property as extra parking for my daughter's summer wedding. That generous offer began a neighborly friendship that lasted 15 years. We bonded as transplanted Texans, bitched about politics and the high cost of propane over the back fence, checked on each other during blizzards. They shared homegrown peaches and tomatoes, their book recommendations, and their friendship during several of my own losses. I am grateful to have known them both.
