Roy Kenneth McKenzie Sr. passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at Trinity Terrace in Fort Worth.
Memorial service: will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private.
R. Kenneth lived his life in Texas. He was born on Oct. 14, 1932, to Roy K. and Marie Bellenger McKenzie and raised in Weatherford. He graduated from Texas Christian University and North Texas State University. He served in the U.S. Army. His career included working at the the Humble Oil Distributorship in Parker County, a family business. He owned an independent insurance agency in Weatherford. In the mid-60s, he began a long and distinguished career in teaching in the field of business at the college level. He was active in the Fort Worth community and a member of Ridglea Country Club and the City Club.
He taught at North Texas State University, Northwest Missouri State University. He served as a member of the faculty in the School of Business at Texas Wesleyan University of 32 years. During his tenure at Wesleyan, he served on many committees including serving as president of the Faculty Senate. He did research on executive development and was published. He was the initial receipt of the prestigious John Maddux Award for outstanding teaching. He was a member of the Society for the Advancement of Management and Sigma Beta Delta business fraternity.
After retiring in 1998, he resided at Lake Weatherford, moving to Trinity Terrace in his later years. He enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Survivors: He is survived by a son, R.K. "Ken" McKenzie Jr. and his wife, Julie, of New York City and Rogers, Ark.; grandsons, R.K. "Trey" McKenzie III of Arlington, Va., John Brittain McKenzie of New York, N.Y., James Grant McKenzie, a student at The University of the South, and Matthew Connor McKenzie, a student at the University of Arkansas, both of Rogers, Ark.; daughter, Karen McKenzie and granddaughters, Kelly Michelle Reese, a graduate of Texas A&M, and Kaydee McKenzie Reese, a senior at Texas A&M, all of Fort Worth.
