GRANBURY -- Lannis Leon Dunn, 75, passed away on the morning of November 29, 2016.
Lannis was born on February 15, 1941 in Cypress, Illinois to William and Grace Dunn. He married Susan M. (Elmore) Dunn on November 10, 1963.
Lannis was always on the go, doing or getting stuff done. He had many interests and many interesting jobs. He was in the Air Force when daughters, Duste and Stephanie were just babies. He did metal flake painting on speed boats, worked with fiberglass making big characters like the Big John guy holding grocery bags in front of grocery stores, and sold mobile homes for 20 years. He cross trained later in life to learn how to replace old power lines with fiber optics, a job that took he and his wife, Sue, all over the mid-west in a motor home for months at a time. Finally, he became the foreman on crews who would go out and replace old gas pipelines. His neatest jobs were the latest, as he always had a chance to be outdoors...collecting cool rocks and old glass transformer insulators, or maybe even an old snake oil bottle or two along the railroad tracks. Whatever it was, he never stopped moving or working...even down to mowing the lake in the summertime when the water level was down (fire hazard). When the weather didn't permit roaming about outside, he always had his research (of absolutely everything) indoors. It is easy to believe "copious notes" is a term they coined especially just for him. Lannis was always the best possible dad there ever was to his daughters, Duste, Melodie, and Stephanie. He was good natured, intelligent, fair, and curious about everything. He could even perform a bit of slight-of-hand, making his children’s eyes pop when they actually witnessed him clicking the remote control to the TV in his sleep - pure magic! Lannis and Sue just celebrated their 53rd anniversary the 10th of this month - a whole heck of a lot of laughs, arguments, friendship, and love went into those 53 years.
Lannis was preceded in death by his parents William and Grace Dunn; 2 sisters ,Verna Boren and Audrey Edwards; 3 brothers, Lewis Dunn, Loren Dunn, and John Lyndell Dunn.
Survivors: Wife, Susan M. Dunn; daughters, Beverly (Duste) Dunn and partner Tom Pendergrass, Stephanie Gorsuch and husband Steve, Melodie Erdmann and husband Donald; brother, Leslie L Dunn and wife Gloria; 5 Grandchildren, Ezra Bryans, Nate Brooks, Koty Erdmann, Kavin Erdmann, and Eric Erdmann; 8 Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
