Obituary of Jean Teresa Sandstrom
Jean Teresa Sandstrom, 61, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
Service: 10 am Tuesday, Holy Family Catholic Church, 6150 Pershing Ave, Ft. Worth.
Jean Theresa Sandstrom was born on July 1, 1955 in Elk Point, South Dakota to her parents George and Betty McInerney. She was the middle child of five. Her siblings are Patsy Fahrendorf, Maureen Rasmussen, Ann Chicione and Ted McInerney. Jean grew up in Elk Point and graduated from Elk Point High School. She went on to graduate from Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. With encouragement from her Uncle Duane, Jean joined the US Air Force in November 1977 and in 1980 married Major Jim (Sandy) Sandstrom. Jean was an active duty nurse from 1977 to 1982, followed by fifteen years in the Air Force Reserves, culminating with her retirement in 1998 as a Lt Colonel. After her retirement, she continued to support her husband as a military spouse and mother to their two children, Kelly Jo and Brett.
In 2004, Jean and Jim made Ft Worth, Texas their home. After Jim died in 2010, she continued to reside at 3413 Autumn Court in Ft Worth, TX 76109 with Brett and Kelly. Jean died on May 18, 2017 surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
She is preceded in death by her parents George and Betty McInerney and her husband Major General James Sandstrom. She is survived by her children, siblings and their spouses along with her Aunt Betty Bernard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
