Dr. Arnoult was my faculty supervisor when I arrived at TCU to start my doctoral studies in psychology in 1973. He mentored me with patience, even giving me a private office that adjoined his. His work in perceptual learning inspired my thesis research. Years later, in the context of teaching a history and systems class, I decided to track my academic genealogy, which, of course, began with Dr. Arnoult. Dr. Arnoult's dissertation was directed by Lloyd Jeffress, whose dissertation was directed by Warner Brown, whose dissertation was directed by Robert Woodworth (starting to hit some pretty big names here), whose dissertation was directed by James M Cattell, whose dissertation was directed by none other than.... Yup. Wilhelm Wundt himself, the founder of scientific psychology. It was my honor to have studied under Dr. Arnoult.
